Spring Break 2012

Spring Break begins Monday, March 26th and concludes with the opening of School on Monday, April 2nd. During this time, school staff will be busy cleaning and renewing the buildings for the rest of the school year. We look forward to the return of students on April 2nd.

The Center Cass Board of Education continues to work diligently on their search for the new Superintendent of Schools. The initial field of candidates has been reduced to two finalists and final interviews will be conducted after the spring break period. An announcement should be made by mid May announcing the new superintendent. This will be an exciting time for the District as new leadership comes on board to continue the District motto of Striving for Excellence!

In the mean time, enjoy your children during this period of renewal and perhaps even the unseasonal strange weather that we have been experiencing.

Have a good week.

Superintendent Search Updates

The search for a new superintendent to replace me continues. To this point, the District’s search firm, BWP Associates has met with stakeholders and developed a district profile. Applications have been collected and preliminary interviews have been conducted. At the BOE meeting tonight, the BOE will receive a list of at least six candidates that have been screened from the original 31 applicants. A committee of the BOE will conduct interviews with these candidates later this month and will select two finalists. The finalists will visit the District next month visiting schools and being interviewed by the entire BOE. Members of the BOE will also be conducting site visits to visit the home district of the final candidates in their normal working environment. The BOE hopes to announce their final candidate in May so that there will be adequate time for transition activities. This will be an exciting time for Center Cass SD 66 with many new opportunities for further growth!

Have a good week!

HOPE FOR HUNTER

From the tragic accident a week ago that seriously injured our student Hunter, has come an explosion of community spirit and concern that is both uplifting and supportive for Hunter, his family and the community at large. In one week, several vigils and other events have been held to lift up Hunter and his recovery from this accident. The organizing of meals for the family and the proliferation of ORANGE throughout the entire community and the many prayers being raised throughout the area has been unbelievable. Please keep Hunter and his family in your thoughts and prayers this week. I am so impressed with this community and proud to be part of it!

Have a good week. Remember there will be no school held on Friday due to Parent – Teacher Conferences.

Vigil for Injured Student

Last night over 250 community members of all ages gathered at Lakeview Junior High to raise up the name of student Hunter Himes who was severely injured in an auto bike accident on Sunday. This gathering was organized by a former Lakeview student who is a friend of Hunter's. This outpouring of support has been phenomenal. The attributes of caring and concern in this small community are outstanding and makes me proud to live here! The Woodridge Patch newspaper provided good coverage of this event with many pictures. Please keep this student and his family in your thoughts at this time!
