Week One is Complete!

We have completed the first week of school with no major problems! Buses have operated on schedule and safely due to the fine work of our Transportation Department. Parents have done a wonderful job observing traffic patterns and driving safely on our school sites. Students have been attentive and cooperative throughout the first four days and are doing a great job in establishing a firm foundation for the new school year! Teachers have worked hard to begin the year on a positive note and motivating students to Strive For Excellence! Custodians have prepared our buildings well for the new year and we appreciate clean will maintained facilities!

Have great Labor Day Weekend!

Bicycle Safety

Today we had a District student injured riding his bike to school when he collided with a car exiting the gas station at 83rd and Lemont Road. Fortunately, the child was not seriously injured. This incident does offer an opportunity for parents to review bicycle safety practices with their children. We are fortunate to have a bike path system that runs right past our Lakeview Campus. The main danger for students is the safe crossing of Plainfield and Lemont Roads. Teach your children how to use the stop light crossing controls to allow them to cross these busy streets safely. A link is attached below for bike safety rules from the Department of Transportation. Please Ride Safely!

Smooth Start for 2008-2009

School opened today with a very smooth start. Buses operated on schedule and delivered their precious cargo safely. Parents who drove students were courteous and followed the established traffic patterns. Students and teachers were eager to get started with the new school year.

Please drive safely now that students are back in school. Please obey School Zone postings and be aware that the DuPage County Sheriff has added extra school zone patrols in our area for the start of the school year to remind us of safety concerns. Thanks for making this a great start!

Ramblings at the Start of New Year

Teachers return to school tomorrow for Opening Institute and I am excited for the year to start. School is a very dead place in the summer without the buzz of teachers and children. Next Monday, August 25th brings our annual Open House from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Lakeview and Prairieview parents are asked to please observe the published traffic pattern when driving on the Lakeview Campus to avoid congestion and accidents.

Since school has ended, there has been no let up in the continual hi-jinks in Springfield that find the Governor, Speaker of the House and President of the Senate all on different pages on the budget book while we, the taxpayers continue to fund their inability to conduct their legislative business in a manner that would make you proud to be a citizen of Illinois. The recent announcement of the retirement on Senate President Emil Jones will further disrupt any efforts for a balanced budget and fiscal plan for the state. Stay tuned!

I hope to see many of you in the next few days as the school year officially opens. I wish everyone a great 2008-2009 school year. See you in school.

School Starts Soon

The start of the 2008-2009 school year is just around the corner. Teachers report for opening institute next Thursday and Friday. Students report on Monday, August 25th for Open House and classes begin on Tuesday, August 26th. Building preparations are almost complete and ready for students. All buildings have been thoroughly cleaned and made ready for our students. Summer projects have been completed and we are ready for the start of the school year.

Two new teachers will be joining the teaching staff this year; Michael Murphy will be teaching fourth grade at Prairieview and Gina Nessling will be teaching reading at Ide. Welcome to Mike and Gina! Mr. Murphy comes to us from Lombard and Mrs. Nessling from the Chicago Public Schools.

I am looking forward to seeing parents and students on August 25th!
