Last Full Week of School

This week will be a busy week beginning with the annual 8^th Grade Luncheon/Dance cruise on the Odyssey today. Hopefully the rain will hold off until we are home! Graduation is this Thursday evening at 7:30 pm. Classes end on June 7^th with an early dismissal. Summer school classes begin on Wednesday, June 8^th and will end on Wednesday, June 28^th.

The End of the Year

It is hard to believe that the end of the school year is just around the corner. It seems like school just began yesterday and yet we are in the final days of what has been a great school year. In a few days, final exams will be given and books and materials will begin to be collected from students. End of the year activities will begin with the annual 8^th Grade Graduation Cruise on the Odyssey on May 31^st. Graduation ceremonies will be held on Thursday, June 2^nd beginning at 7:30 pm at Lakeview. Admission is by ticket only. Final concert performances have been held and the spring athletic season has been completed. Congratulations to the Lakeview Girls Soccer Team and Coach Wilson on another great season! They were undefeated this year with a record of 9-0.

The last day of school will be Tuesday. June 7^th which is the result of two snow days used this year. Summer school will begin at Lakeview on Wednesday June 8^th. This summer we will be repairing worn and damaged parking lots at Lakeview and Ide. This work will result in temporary changes to normal traffic patterns around the schools during this work.

Congratulations to Harry O'Shea who is retiring after 10 years of service to the District in our custodial department serving at both Ide and Lakeview! Congratulations also to Kristen Pellin who retires after 10 years of teaching reading at Ide. Good luck to both Mr. O'Shea and Mrs. Pellin as they begin a new life of leisure!

Tedeschi Honored

We were pleased to discover this week that band director, Tom Tedeschi has been selected as one of six Outstanding Music Educators for 2011. This award is organized and sponsored by Quinlan and Fabish Music since 1989. Honorees are selected by noted musicians and educators throughout the Chicago-land area. Mr. Tedeschi joined the staff at Lakeview Junior High School in the fall of 1991. Under his direction the Lakeview Wind Ensemble was chosen to perform at the Illinois Music Educators Annual conference this past January in Peoria. Congratulations to Mr. Tedeschi!

Smoky Mountain Music Festival 2011

On April 28^th over 145 musicians, directors and chaperones departed Lakeview for Gatlinburg, TN to participate in the Smoky Mountain Music Festival. After an eleven hour bus ride we arrived safely at our destination ready for two days of musical competition. I am happy to report that this year was a GREAT year for the Spartans! Our five performing groups each brought home a 1^st place trophy in each event they entered!
