Saskatchewan Screamer

Today's storm finally arrived early this morning but was not able to overcome the Center Cass SD snow crew who in spite of heavy snow cleared it and prepared drives and lots for a smooth opening of school. Thanks to all of our bus drivers who delivered their precious cargo safely and on time today. Thankfully the warm temperatures spared us from serious difficulties! This is sure a strange winter in the weather department!

Have a good weekend and think Spring!

Pack the Place 2012

What a great week of basketball we have had this week at Lakeview! Pack the Place was another great success and we split this year with the girls defeating Westview Hills and the boys falling to Gower. Capacity crowds enjoyed all of the festivities and watching, Ms. Cerney, Mrs. Mesker, Ms. Schwenkel, Mr. Tiede, Ms. Enzbigilis, Mrs. Mastny, Mr. Little, Officer Urso and yours truly get hit in the face with a delicious whipped cream pie! A special recognition ceremony honored long time teacher and Coach Tom Dodd for his 38 years of service to the Center Cass community!

Basketball continues today with the Boys Varsity Spartans facing Butler today at 4:00 pm and the Girls Varsity Spartans playing Burr Ridge on Thursday. Come on out and support our teams!

Remember there is no school on Monday, February 20 as we celebrate Presidents Day!

Remember you can now visit us on Facebook at Center Cass School District

Have a good weekend.

February 6, 2012

The strange but pleasant winter weather is still with us. I keep wondering when we will get clobbered by a huge snowfall? I guess we should be glad for lower than anticipated utility costs associated with the warmer weather and minimal snow removal costs. This past weekend we hosted the 36th or 37th Annual Lakeview solo contest. This event started in the spring of 1976 or 1977 in response to school and parent dissatisfaction with the Illinois Grade School Music Association Solo Contest. The IGSMA contest often involved transporting 150 students great distances for an entire 8 – 10 hour day to perform a 3 minute solo. In the interest improving the learning and musical experience for our students, this contest was established and remains in place today. At its height we had over 500 students from as many as six districts participated. In recent years the event has settled into a long term arrangement with the Gower School District that now involves about 300 students. Thanks to the District 66 Music Boosters and our teachers; Ms. Berman, Mr. Ohlsen, Mr. Tedeschi and Ms. Wyse for making this a great event for students! Congratulations to our Outstanding Soloists Winners and all participants. I am glad that we had no snow this weekend since this event has been bombed the last few years with a big snow storm the night before the contest!

Have a great week!
