Happy New Year 2009

It is hard to believe another year has passed so quickly! It seems like yesterday that I was amazed to be living in 2008. The older I get the quicker the days pass by. We have worked hard to this week to restore the school buildings to high level of cleanliness. Everything has been prepared for the return of students next Monday, January 5, 2009.

As 2008 comes to an end, I hope for health, happiness and peace for everyone, a return to economic stability in our country, an end to the leadership vacuum in Illinois and an end to violence in our world in 2009.
Happy New Year!

Early Morning Ramblings..

School is closed today mainly because the area high school districts decided to close for some reason. I was out at 3:30 am checking out road conditions and found that Woodridge and Downers Grove had done a great job preparing their streets. Darien was just starting to plow and the county had main roads cleared. Some of the secondary roads were snow covered but drivable and school lots were plowed and clear. Buses were cleared and ready to be started. Due to the relatively warm weather and favorable road conditions it seemed a sure thing to open school. Cass, Darien, Woodridge and Maercker districts were all ready to open with us. I hate to loose a day of school and especially a day like today which is full of activities for students. Now we will need to add a day and amend the school calendar.

I hope that everyone has a safe and restful Holiday! I look forward to to New Year and hope for some resolution to the Blagojevich situation as well as action to solve the State of Illinois financial crisis.

Peace and joy!

Ninth Annual Winter Festival of Bands

Over 800 young musicians participated in the Ninth Annual Winter Festival of Bands held at Lakeview Junior High School on Saturday, December 6th. Eleven bands from Downers Grove, Darien, Burr Ridge, Woodridge and Burbank took part in this festival. The musicians were supported by hundreds of parents and relatives who cheered the students on as they performed. Students received comments and and a brief clinic from adjudicator, Glenn Williams, Fine Arts Department Chair at Downers Grove South High School.

Congratulations to all participants and visitors. Thanks to the District 66 Music Boosters and directors, Brian Ohlsen and Tom Tedeschi for organizing and hosting this wonderful event. Don't miss our concerts on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings this week. All concerts will be held at Lakeview Junior High School and begin at 7:00pm.
