Budget Update
The Illinois General Assembly adjourned Saturday evening after adopting a budget for FY 09. They apparently want to be away from Springfield and the pressure of being responsible legislators. The problem with the budget is that it is not balanced and uses highly dubious sources of revenue to support its expenditures. Some estimate that the budget deficit is at least $1.3 billion. Schools would receive an additional $500 million in this budget. They have sent the budget to Governor Blagojevich who could balance it using his veto powers or bring the legislators back to Springfield to complete their work in the next couple of weeks. Let's see what happens!
